Post-Tinting Car Care Tips

The Tinting process does not end when your vehicle is released by your chosen tinting company after the tint film installation. In fact, the next phase of the process starts: the curing of the films to the glass itself.

It may be an additional cost at a certain time, but, the rewards you reap and the benefits you will experience from it will be worth it. The best thing to do is make sure that you prolong the lifespan of your tints to make sure you get the most out of your investment while maintaining its quality and beautiful appearance.

If you only just had your car window tints, you can help maintaining it by leaving your windows up for 48 hours (2 days) after the tint installation. However, experts suggest that it will take at least two weeks for it to fully be cured. This means that the films are fully adhered on the glass and will not peel off when you roll it down.

The urge to clean it may be strong for it will be cloudy, hazy, and you may see little water pockets forming in the tint, but it’s normal. Once your vehicle has been tinted the windows will have been lightly wiped down, it is probably the best time to give it some proper cleaning.

Let it do its magic and clean it after a few days.

After a few days have passed, double check if all the adhesives have properly dried and settled before rolling down your windows. It is also important to note that if it is not a need to crack the windows open, don’t do so and let it sit a little bit longer.

Cleaning newly-tinted windows is a simple process as long as you know what materials and cleaners to avoid. You have to be extra careful on cleaning your tinted windows if you want your tint to last a long time, still looking good as new.

The main difference between cleaning tinted windows from cleaning non-tinted windows is the things you should use, and the things you should avoid. Knowing what products are bad for your tinting will help prevent you from accidentally doing damage to it or reducing its life.  As a general rule, never use windows cleaners that contain ammonia, and stay away from wiping the windows with cloth made from rough materials.

Moreover, never use brushes or cloth with abrasives for it will definitely scratch the tints and will make it appear as if it was clawed. To be safe, stick to using soft cloths, microfibers, or paper towels to avoid scratching it.

Never try to fix them yourself using home products that can be counterproductive and ruin the tint instead. this can cause lines and other imperfections in your tint. You may find tips online on how to handle them, but bringing them in to those who professionally install it would be the best and safest option.

While having tints is not really high maintenance, it is not an excuse not to be careful especially that there’s a thin film adhered to your car windows. Pay extra attention when loading and unloading anything with sharp or hard edges like boxes and sporting equipment, and also watch out for an unexpected culprit: your seat belt. Some people usually don’t notice how often the metal buckle dings the window when pulling the belt on and off, and it only takes one ding to tear your tint—which can consequently result to a bigger damage and headache on your part.
